Fishing Guide

I was leveling Fishing before last year's break, and it turns out I can help my Ls Buddy if I decide to keep leveling it. Considering I have aN64 Controller w/ Rumble Pack, Fishing is pretty attractive to me. :)

Somepage Fishing Guide

Here is a Crafting Timer, for other members of the Trades.

Looks like Fishing Fatigue kicks in ~ 200 fish catches, and resets @ Midnight JST.

If you don't care about going for Lu quite yet and desire skillups more, you can still fish for those Tricolored Carp, but as stated, skillups will be slow for the first 7 or 8 levels. A better fish to go for would be Quus (19). These can be easily found in Selbina. If you fish with Lugworms or Sardine Balls, you will be able to target Greedie (14) as well. You can also catch Fat Greedie (23) which are used in the Under the Sea quest. If you have access to Norg, you are able to catch both Yellow Globe (17) and Quus (19) with a Sabiki Rig.

After hitting 19, you have two other choices, beyond the options listed above. You can head to Bastok Markets (River) and use a Minnow, Sinking Minnow or Frog Lure to target Giant Catfish (31) and Dark Bass (33). Because of the strength of Giant Catfish and the size of Dark Bass I would suggest using a Mithran Fishing Rod if you can afford it. If not, use a Single Hook Fishing Rod, Clothespole or Halcyon Rod because all other small rods will break on the catfish. If you are tired of city fishing, you can hop on the Ferry from Selbina or Mhuara and using a Shrimp Lure and a Mithran Fishing Rod or Halcyon Rod (or some other small rod.) You can fish for Nebimonite which cap at 27. Nebimonite are small, fairly easy to catch fish, but they do not bite nearly as much as fish inside the cities do. Also beware of the dangers you can find on the Ferry. For more on the dangers, please see Fishing 301: Levels 28-40 (Deep-Sea Fishing). As a tip here, if you see massive sweat balls flying off your rod when you hook a fish, let it go, do not try and reel it in, as you might break your Shrimp Lure and whichever rod you use.

Whichever route you decide to take, don't forget to turn in your Skillup Item when you reach level 18-20.

Fishing Instinct Message ----- What It Means

"You have a good feeling about this one!" ----- Small fish (item if VERY little stamina)

"You have a good feeling about this one!!!" ----- Monster

"You don't know if you have enough skill to reel this one in." ----- Small fish (item if VERY little stamina)

"You don't know if you have enough skill to reel this one in!!!" ----- 75% Large Fish, 25% Monster

"You are fairly sure you don't have enough skill to reel this one in." ----- Small fish (item if VERY little stamina)

"You are fairly sure you don't have enough skill to reel this one in!!!" ----- 50% Large Fish, 50% Monster

"You're positive you don't have enough skill to reel this one in!" ----- Small fish (item if VERY little stamina)

"You're positive you don't have enough skill to reel this one in!!!" ----- Large Fish

"You have a bad feeling about this one." ----- May break rod or lure

"You have a terrible feeling about this one..." ----- Large Fish

I'll prolly just fish in Norg, for Fun. I'll grab a Lure or 2, maybe

Thinking about brushing my Fishing up again. Somepage is abandoned these days, so here is a Wiki Guide, with Moat Skill Up Info.

Level 11-20 - The Forest Carp

In order to safely do this, you will need to know how to get to the underground ponds in Yhoator Jungle. Goblins may wander by many of the ponds, which makes sneak fishing difficult at lower levels, but there are some exceptions: the dead ends in E-9 (on the way from the Teleport-Yhoat crystal to the third Yuhtunga Jungle zone) and F-8 (just south from the second Yuhtunga Jungle zone) only have non-aggro mobs. Your targets will be Moat Carps and Forest Carps. Over 75% of casts will hook a carp, of which about 1/3 will be Forest Carp. If your messages has "!!!", just release the fish as it is a mob or an Arrowwood Log. But from experience, mobs very rarely show up if Halcyon is used. Also don't bother trying to pull up a "bad feeling" fish, as it will just break your line. You may fish near Sea Serpent Grotto in Yuhtunga Jungle but the bite rate is not as good.

Yay, I found my Halcyon Rod on a mule. :)

=======================

Level 11-33

=======================

Target Fish: Tricolored Carp (12/27), Dark Bass (18/33), Gold Carp (41/56)

Location: Davoi (Pond), Jugner Forest (Lake)

Rod: Carbon, Clothespole, Composite, Fastwater, Glass Fiber, Halcyon, Hume, Mithran, Single Hook, Tarutaru, Willow, Yew

Bait: Little Worm, Insect Ball, Robber Rig, Rogue Rig

By far one of the best fishing locations in the game, the lake in Jugner Forest is very active, offers frequent bites, and allows you to target multiple fish for fast skillups. Using Little Worms is your cheapest option in terms of bait, but you will also catch many Crayfish. Use Insect Balls for better Moat Carp bite rates if you are willing to shell out some additional gil or can craft them yourself. Gold Carps will be rare, but are still catchable even 23-45 levels under the cap. Here again Tricolored Carp and Gold Carp can break Carbon/Hume Rods, so you will most likely be better off using the Mithran/Halcyon, but be aware that the occasional Arrowhead Log in Jugner Forest could snap it. If you are concerned about rod breaks, use the Composite. Monsters range up to level 47 in Davoi, but only 29 in Jugner.

Favorite Setup: Halcyon Rod + Insect Balls at Lake Mechieume (H-5) in Jugner Forest cancelling all catches followed by three exclamation marks (!!!) since they are either Arrowwood Logs or monsters. .

Time for Fishing! :P
