Pic0o
I'm pretty sure it has been established that I enjoy the GTA Franchise. While I don't finish them with the swiftness (Almost wrapped up GTA3, GG'd VC, barely cracked ton of story in SA), I love the games, especially for random Standoffs. GTA Subforums have been restored. Anywho, my point is that GTA4 will be upon us pretty soon. I am glad that I have a 360 to play it, as my PC Rig did a decent job with San Andreas, but would be a victim of Epic Failure running GTA4. I will make my PC feel good doing Game Video Rips though, bless a capture card. ;) Post-Release Edit: Multi Player has custom model support (no User Generated currently), as it gives the choice of Male or Female, with 4 to 6 options (default amount listed below, more obtained by level up) per attribute. Money is the key factor to skilling up and unlocking extra Model options from what I have read. You get loot for Kills and Completing Objectives, so Team Play can be a large key to pimping GTA Online to it's peak. Multi Player Skin Options - with Default Amount of Choices Gender (M or F) Head (Skin Tone) 4/4 Torso 4/4 Legs 4/4 Glasses 2/2 Hat 6/6Upon Gaining a New Level in Ranked Play, you get more Model Options. I got 2+ for Head, Torso, Legs, Hats and I think +1 for Glasses upon Ranking up to level 1. There are 10 levels of achievement. Achievements allow you to unlock more options for clothing and characters. Multi Player Game Modes- Team Modes - Team Deathmatch Team Mafiya Work Team Car Jack City Cops n' Crooks Turf War- Race Modes - Race GTA Race- Co-Op Modes - Deal Breaker Bomb Da Base II Hangman's NOOSE- Free For All - Free Mode - Basically MTA mode. Do as you please, no limitations. Deathmatch Car Jack City Mafiya Work Server Config Options for Multi Player Mode(s) Location - All of the world map, small slivers. Duration - Length of Round Friendly Fire - On = Missiles @ Other players without damage, except fall damage. Auto-Aim - HUD Target help, on or off. Weapons - All or only one of a kind Police - On or Off Traffic - Low, Medium, High, Off Pedestrians - Yup, NPC's in the Online. Light, Medium, High, Off Blips Gamertag Display Recticle Health Voice Chat Respawn Distance (Further = More time to get Guns in DM's) Respawn Time Time of Day Weather Effects - Varied or defined Traffic - Light, Medium, High, Off When you are hosting a game, you have approx 3 minutes or so in the lobby to invite friends, before randoms start hopping into the lobby to fill slots. Also, it seems any client in the game can invite friends quite easily without the need of the Server Host doing anything. You can also add more people into a game in progress with no problem, at leas in the DM and Free Mode. :ninjawub: If you host a Non-Ranked (Player Match | Custom Match) game, you can Max private slots and block the random joins completely. Friends of Friends should still work, I believe. Speaking with J0k3r, the games are hosted via Live, so you don't need a super connection to host 16 Players. Multi Player Tips and Highlights All of the non-Cooperative game modes are money based. Only a team or a player can win. The one with the most money will always be the winner. In time limit games, the winner will be the one with the most money when the timer expires. In point limit games, the winner will be the one who reaches/surpasses the point limit first. There are 10 levels of achievement. Achievements allow you to unlock more options for clothing and characters. Taunts – players can press (L1 for PS3 or LB for Xbox 360) to perform a context sensitive taunt directed at the other players. You can talk to your friends on headsets during the modes. You can even have a one to one conversation with a friend by calling him/her through your in-game mobile phone. In Player Match mode, you can vote on what the next game will be using the in-game mobile phone. Players can set waypoints for other teammates in vehicles. A player’s gamertag will disappear whenever that player crouches or uses cover. Multi Player Game Mode Breakdown: Player Match – Results here do not count towards your GTA IV multiplayer ranking. There are separate leader boards for these modes. With Custom Matches, playerscan host matches where they can reserve spots for friends. Players can be invited into games in progress. Ranked – In ranked games, the more player cash a player wins, the higher their rank increases. After gaining a rank, the player unlocks more clothing options for theircharacter. Players cannot invite friends into ranked games. Party Mode (2-8 players) - Players can invite their friends to a party mode by using the in-game mobile phone. (For Xbox 360 users, you can also select and invite friendsvia Xbox LIVE.) The players spawn in a “party area”. After the host, or “party leader”, selects a game mode, all players in the party will join that game mode. In team modes, the party will play against another party. In competitive modes, the game will be played as normal – but only players in the party will be involved, with other people allowedto join the mode until all slots have been taken. Controls: Driving seems awkward at first when trying to stay off the sidewalks, but after some good use of Reverse / Break and the hand Brake, you'll be high speed driving in no time. Ducking and Cover add a nice evasion feel to the game. Tinker with them early, as I got mine on in MP before I needed to in SP. What a blessing. The Body and Vehicle Physics are quite impressive too. No more jumping out a car at full speed with next to no recovery. It does make crazy evasion interesting. I uploaded the MP FAQ, and the R* Multiplayer Page has most of this info, just not in easy text form. They did not document all the game modes yet, so I will try to dump more when I'm @ home. If you notice an inconsistency, drop a post and I'll update. J0k3r and I did a 3-Hour record session and here are some clips I cut from it. :) Here are some Multi Player Videos. Aqua Flop - 6.2 MB - 00:35 Minutes Cycle Dive - 14 MB - 01:20 Minutes Cycle Swim - 18.3 MB - 01.43 Minutes Dun Drink and Drive - 23.8 MB - 02:14 Minutes Get to Da Choppah - 75.6 MB - 07:03 Minutes Missile Shootout - 59.1 MB - 05:31 Minutes Moto Grind - 2.8 MB - 00:14 Minutes Ridin Dirtay - 43.6 MB - 04:05 Minutes Shine Yo Tires - 21.1 MB - 01:57 Minutes Shootout + Unabonger - 37.0 MB - 03:26 Minutes Vehicluar Battery - 6.7 MB - 00:41 Minutes Warp to World 2 - 1.4 MB - 00:09 Minutes You may want to Save Target File, as Streaming is not quite fantastic depending on load. The Re-encoded files are almost done uploading. All Videos in this 2nd encode revision total 309 MB vs the 451 MB the first batch was. For folks on the mapping hunt, peep the Interactive Liberty City Map. Ahh, we have to play ranked games to rank up for more models and shit. Makes sense. I got $1000 in Kills playing deathmatch and got Level 1. If we have a Ranked Team do objective stuff, Money will be much quicker to rain down. Also, you might want to enter the GTA4 Xbox Live Contest. Drop your Gamertag in the hat, and hope for free toys. I ordered the Collectors Edition, as Rockstar tends to do a good job for the extra loot and this round is no exception. My CE got delayed so I went regular, and got Kat a copy too. Multiplayer:Multiplayer will be a feature of GTA IV but will not be an MMO, as noted by Dan Houser. It will be accessible from Niko's mobile phone and is aiming for up to 16 players, with a possibility of open-ended gameplay and exploring the whole city. I look forward to not needing a 3rd party interface for this, hell GTA2 had it and rocked it hard. gtaiv_getting_started.pdf gtaiv_getting_started_rev_1.pdf Edited May 9, 2008 by Pic0o Added Update FAQ for MP Link to comment
tOucan
Ill be picking up a copy on game day, The collectors edition here is double the normal version $150 It has some cool loot but my wallet will thank me otherwise with standard. Link to comment
Pic0o
Sweet on the Score, boo on the double price for CE. Collectors is gonna run $90.00 here, as the Standard is $60, so I figured WTH. Either way, I hope for some massive kick-ass play, and some impressive, and pretty well synced gun fights. We'll see what the R* Godz deliver though. :P Link to comment
Pic0o
Here is some GTA4 Multiplayer info translated from a Spanish PSM mag. The game modes featured are as follows:1. Hangman's NOOSE 2. Car Jack City 3. Bomb da Base 4. Bomb da Base II 5. Mafia Work 6. Team Mafia Work 7. Deathmatch 8. Team Deathmatch 9. Turf War 10. Cops N Crooks 11. Race 12. GTA Race 13. Deal Breaker 14. Free Mode 15. ???? I warmed my Aunt up for getting my Cousin a copy, so we can rock the MP. I'm pretty impressed by the list of modes, and potential 16 Player player games. It's good to see the MTA project was not in vein, as it got the big R* to add an In-box MP layer. ;) Link to comment
Xerxes
I think Ill end up picking it up just for multiplayer Link to comment
Pic0o
Hell yeah. MP is what GTA has needed for a long time, namely, as I tend to never finish any of them. I think the main reason I finished Vice City, was because I played the Multiplayer, knew the zones pretty well, then I went back to complete the Single Player. I hope the MP is good, and continues to get support, as it is the rehash the series needed, Imo. :) Link to comment
Pic0o
The time is coming. I have a countdown I do for my friend here in the Office, who has been waiting to get a Ps3. I warn him how long he has before the mighty blessing of Internet-based vehicular homicide via GTA 4 is. Speaking of such, D-Toid has some info quoted for the Rockstar Social Club. GTA IV, the first game featured on the Rockstar Social Club, hasexciting features beyond multiplayer leaderboards, including: * LCPD Police Blotter -- A virtual map and tracker of single-player criminal activity logged in Liberty City from the aggregated data of millions of connected players - showing the most dangerous areas of town, most commonly used weapons and more. * The Story Gang -- This special single-player leaderboard recognizes players who complete Niko Bellic's main story arc of Grand Theft Auto IV - The leaderboard ranks players according to the total amount of playing time it's taken to complete the story, as well as a historical rank by who has completed it first. Members of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges marking all of their in-game accomplishments. * The 100% Club -- Watch to see who will be the first to complete 100% of the game. The first ten people to be identified on the Social Club as reaching 100% will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative 'key to the city' to mark their accomplishment. In the future, the 100% Club will then carry a historical leaderboard showing rankings of who has completed 100% of a game in the shortest span of playing hours. * The Hall of Fame -- This area will dynamically recognize those singularly elite players who have reached the top of the hill on various statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of special in-game landmarks and successes in Social Club competitions. * The Liberty City Marathon -- A ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game - from the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam - to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. There will be additional special marathon-based competitions in the future from this area as well. The Rockstar Social Club doesn't stop there. With special competitions, leaderboards and challenges rolling out regularly in the weeks and months following the game's release, this is just the beginning of an on-going Liberty City experience and is a small taste of what's to come from Rockstar Games for GTAIV and beyond... Being a friend of the MTA projects, I know how awesome this can be, and eagerly look forward to seeing how the big R* works the Netcode and game balancing. I shall be found in some massive GTA 4 come end April, and hopefully my Cousins will too, as one is a legal adult now, and the other is 16. ;) Link to comment

Pic0o
I see some changes were made for the AU Release. No one seems to know what yet, but I hope it's minuscule, and most of all, I hope online play is not region locked. Smells like someone in your legal system thinks you AU folk should not be allowed sexx0rz. If hookers are the only cut, it should not sting too bad, but still WTF on having a 15 yr old game rating cap? I also saw some AU legislation to the Tune of finally getting you guys a 17+ / M Rating. Man I'm sure you guys would love that, as movies go all the way up to 17+, right? Link to comment

Man I'm sure you guys would love that, as movies go all the way up to 17+, right? I was just about to come in here and post this :P I hope no major changes are apon us. The only differences between GTA3 and VC with the american versions were that hookers still walked the streets but we couldnt pick them up and take them for a "ride" I hope that applies here aswell. The 15+ game cap has been a bastard for years, recently its been getting alot of attention considering more gamers are over 18 then under 18 in Australia, there was a minister in SA trying to throw a Jack Thompson on us but he was over turned. So now a votes being put to the people which should go ahead so we finaly get a games rating for 18+ To little to late for GTA4 this time around but if region plays locked ill be importing from New Zealand :shank: Link to comment
