Blackberry Tinkering

Jolly Day from the Office. I am tinkering w/ my Blackberry hand-me-down from Kat and I'm a fan. The internet use is not enchanting from the office, but I've used it @ her Dad's pad before and it's handy.

I modded my Trackball and it's now Green ;)

Guide for cleaning and Changing Trackball Color

One of the Clips for the Middle part was broken off, but I found the sliver and may glue it back on to keep all nested, especially since I don't see me re-coloring my ball soon. :P

For the Nix Heads, I did not see my Phone Map on a Nix Rig, so Windows is my Tinkering Layer now, as all the Apps, including OEM, are written for Windows. Since the device is not mounting upon Nix Plugin by USB, I figure trying anything in Wine is moot.

I will be tinkering over the day, as I am downloading the OS Update for my Phone, that will let me record video and stuff. ;) Easier Game Rip Pics are cool for me, since I can get those in 'HD' Form. This thing has a waaaaay nicer Camera then the Razr does. :)

I celebrated my Text-ability by hitting JeT up on day 1, then hittin Guppie up today, since he's hip w/ the text phones. We gonna break his new pad in. ;)

Cool beans, i might have a tinker with my phone now that ive got a dedicated PC to use for internet searching and what not :P

Side note, how long are mobile numbers in the US? I just ask because the population is so much larger. Mines 0433-455-470 but all mobiles have 04 in australia so really its only 8.

Minus the 04, you have the same standard length of 7 digits we do.

282-310-8213 is a same straight #, as the first 3 are Area Code, that splits based on countless stuff, but just acts to seed more #'s to an area.

Missed this post initially, but yeah dude, you were my native text. :P

I currently use my Phone as my Primary Music device in the Car, as it does well playing via Input on my receiver. I am a sad panda that I cannot browse my phone storage in Linux, but that's why I have multiple computers around me. shitflagsniper.gif

Just to save anyone time, the Accuweather.com plugin from the BB Addon site sucks, go for the 'The Weather Network' on instead.

I was curious how to remove this app and prevent it from slaying my battery, and I found the following:

To remove Accuweather, Load your Web Browser on your BB, and Remove the channel from the web browser bookmarks. Look at the Bottom of your Bookmarks and you should see it.

Removing the Bookmark should take care of removing the Icon and the data transfers.

Bump in the name of phones no longer charging. I plugged my phone in yesterday to see it show the charge icon, then go away. USB communication would also drop out at this point. The charge issue was also present using the AC Charger.

This is the 2nd (Blackberry Curve) phone I have seen this issue on, and I seem to have found a fix.

The Mini-USB port is roughly trapezoid in shape, with a longer side and a shorter one. The actual contacts are seen inside the port as tracks next to a central (flimsy!) plastic plate, adjacent to the LONGER side of the port. What seems to happen is that, over time, the plastic plate starts to bend away from the longer side, causing one or more of the contacts not to make any more. So I took a small flat-blade screwdriver, inserted it between the plastic plate and the SHORTER side and VERY GENTLY eased the plate a bit nearer to the longer side.

BINGO!! It works again!

I gave the internal connector some small tugs to the bottom side of the port and Blam! Phone is charging and doing USB connections without issue. I believe the issue was caused yesterday from a USB cable that had a bent end, that pushed the internal connector up a little too high.

I am very happy I don't need to get a new phone or switch models. I am mad phone frugal. ;)
