JeT
So I got one of those E74 "General Hardware Failure" bugs with partial red ring. After reading the help page for this error on the official support website, it basically said if it still occurs after unplugging everything and testing completely barebones, then you're fucked and need to have it repaired. I saw some things on the internet about overheating hacks and crap... but... I dunno I thought I remember some of you guys saying that's all silly nilly. I only had a 30 Day warranty-- received from Ebay. I sent them an angry letter to see if they might help out in some way. I already had to have them swap my wireless controller they sent me. Any advice or tips/experiences on this? Pic0o, didn't you just go through a red ring experience? Link to comment
JeT
Well, I gotta hand it to MS, it seems they've made it pretty painless to return a 3ringed or E74ed console. I registered my console's serial under my account and found the standard warranty period over-- I figured that. But I had read they gave a 3 year extended warranty for those 2 above errors. I said I had a E74 and they gave me a UPS Ground label to print out and stick on a box. I packed it up in the same box I received it from-- from Ebay seller, and taped that bitch up. Now I just need to walk a couple blocks to a UPS drop box and leave to rest to UPS and MS. Although it's shitty this error happened-- it'll cost me absolutely nothing to get fixed... they really made the process quite easy. Hopefully everything goes as planned... and I get it back relatively soon. :o Found out my unit def was one of the newer made ones, with a manf. date of Jan 23rd, 2008. Link to comment
Pic0o
Shit. If it helps, my current replacement seems to be doing well. I had the same fate and RMA as you, so 2 week turn around should have ya with some new shit. All they need to do now is make sure the things keep running. The failure rate blows my fuckin mind. Kat
Glad you at least got a it RMAed quick. Link to comment
JeT
All they need to do now is make sure the things keep running. The failure rate blows my fuckin mind. Seriously! I mean, my unit was an '08 model... and they're still having such a high failure rate? It's kinda incredible... the things my SNES went through... :S EDIT: The shitty thing is: I don't have a spare Kat's xbox 360 to play on in the meantime. :P Link to comment
Kat
You can borrow mine :) I hardly play anymore anyway. I'm old and I work all the time. Link to comment
Pic0o
Aye. I think I watch Netflix on her console more than she plays it. :P Come pick it up. ;) Side-note. This old drive I threw in my rig is loud as hell. Should test for a quieter drive, but laziness dominates this battle. Link to comment
tOucan
Random bumpage 08 unit doesnt mean its a Falcon. Mines manafactured december 08 but its a falcon.. Check the psu for wattage of 175w. Point of bump is im finnaly sending my old 360 away so i can hock it on ebay since it just sitting here broken seems kinda pointless and I needed to get off my lazy ass and get a few things done today :P Link to comment
Pic0o
Good work on that. You quitting the RROD console for good? I'm on my last day of a 4-day weekend. Just got done with the Water Temple in OoT, so I am taking a game break for a little bit. Link to comment
tOucan
For sure, and if my falcon breaks. (even though it shouldnt) I'll get it repaired, buy a jasper which come with a bigger hard drive anyway and hock the old one again aswell. Heres hoping no RROD on my new console but as I hope Microsoft have sorted there shit by now. Launch - RROD Prone Xboxes - 200w psu Late 2008 - Falcon Xboxes - 175psu Very late 2008-09 - Jasper Xboxes - 150psu Late 2009-10 - RROD FREE XBOX??? They have to be nearly there :P Link to comment
Pic0o
Sony must be happy as hell about the RROD stuff, as I think competition would be much worse on their behalf if the damn 360's didn't love to eat shit so much. If we lived in a world where the consoles all played the same games (and discs), could you imagine how many less 360 sales would have happened, solely from the hardware issues? It's a damn shame the Hardware dept. @ MS was being run like the software division. On a good note, whenever the next wave of consoles hit, MS would have to be suicidal to release another console with so many issues. I'm willing to bet people would send the things back with ticking devices included. Oh well, end of my pre-coffee 'WTF-how-can-anyone-not-evaluate-thermal-issues-before-release' rant. It's hot as fuck in the office, while outside is 50F... Gonna catch up on E3 action. :bunny: Link to comment
