J0k3r
Aight well with my travel time at my job being 50% lately and it seems as though it will be continuing this route for sometime I decided to retire my Lenovo S10-2 Netbook. My netbook has done a great job for email/webcam/voice chat/websites but it never had power to do anything more. It's 1.6ghz Intel Atom would be running hard az hell with something as simple as TeamSpeak. So yea I am in Memphis TN at the moment and last night I decided to phone home and see what the wife's thoughts would be about me scoring a laptop. Being that the laptop is not a replacement for my main PC I didnt need to go Epic, but since it was my "PC" when I was on the road I wanted something with some snot behind it. One last note, since I was on the road I needed something I could pickup last night, so that rolled out internet ordering. So guess which route I went? I went to Bestbuy to check out the offerings. I was not sold on the idea of coming back to my hotel room with a laptop. I wanted to, but I was willing to walk away if they didnt have one that I deemed worthy of being my travel partner. I ended up scoring a Sony VAIO VPCSC (VPSC41FM/S/COREI5-2) Here are the specs CPU: Intel i5 2.5ghz Mem: 8GBs DDR3 Vid: Intel HD + AMD Radeon 6470M (512MB) HD: 750GB SSD Hybrid DVD: Blueray+dvdburner OS: Win7 Premium 64bit I only really wanna play one game on it atm and that is Forsaken World. Now when Diablo III comes out I am hoping this laptop has enough muscle to run it. If not, I wont cry, but I think it might. The overall of performance of this laptop has been impressive. My idea of a laptop keep me thinking that they all suck. But I must say I really did underestimate the performance of today's laptop offerings. The unit is compact, but big enuf.. It has an incredible keyboard that I am absolutely in love with. Plenty of USB ports, has an VGA and HDMI port for external viewing, and some other sh1t which is nice. Now the only thing I didnt like about buying this latop is that the thing comes with all the preloaded software. I spent most of last night gutting out the crap, and wow what a difference. Dont get me wrong I was impressed with the laptop with all of the garbage on it, but after a good clean, this thing screams. No delay what so ever in anything. The other great thing is, I loaded Forsaken world up today and it ran it like a desktop. It was flawless and extremely fast, even with 2 clients running which to me was impressive. My home box can do that without issue, but thats also epic compared to this laptop. So yea, I must say I was very happy. The cost for the latop was $899 + a -$50 coupon I found, so a total of $849. I am pretty damn happy with the purchase. Just an FYI, I still ordered 2GBs of memory for my netbook and I will be installing a nice SSD in it as well to get a little more juice out of it. That netbook is extremely handy to have around and it will now be dedicated to L33 for whaterver she wants to do with it, or a misc handy swiss army knife computer to have around the house So in summary I finally got my own personal proper laptop. w00t w00t :P Link to comment
nick
I'd truecrypt anything important / root it with something you can access remotely if you're flying a lot, but then I'm kinda paranoid. :P ^_^ Edited May 11, 2012 by nick Link to comment
Pic0o
Cool laptop. I had some Vaio's in the past and liked them quite a bit. Guessing that thing should be fine for D3 too, since that card should be of scale to my 460 GTX. That did D3 ok with a Core 2 Duo, ffs. :) My only beef with the Vaio line is how my previous died. Slow mobo / bad solder connection. It rolled for like 3-4 years on heavy travel, just happened to die while I was on a work trip. That thing saw a massive amount of travel too. Link to comment
J0k3r
You know, 3 - 4 years heavy travel with a laptop is honestly more than I would expect to get TBH. I have had some experience with Vaio's and with only 1 exception I was pretty happy with how it rolled. Good news on the DIII note, I'm happy to hear that Link to comment
J0k3r
DIII is running like a boss. I cant run everything max, but it is making really no difference in the visual output. I am stoked that this thing runs the games so carefree. So yea not a bad score at all Link to comment
