I'll rock this thread for some iPhone game actions, as I just downloaded a bunch of Free iPhone games, all lacking in annoying mid-game ads. :yar:

Thanks for the link, iPhone games thread on NeoGAF.

I will also use this thread to detail paid games, I have got my hands on and spent some time with. I'll update this post with a link to the related post, in this thread.

Split this from the game tracker, so we have 1 thread for sharing cool games on the Apple platforms. Today's Dope game of the day is Espgaluda II.

If you like some shumup / bullet hell game play, peep the demo / lite version of this game. Made by Cave, my newfound heroes, thanks to DeathSmiles. Espgaluda II is on 360 in region free format (if you import it), but I'd rather grab a local edition if it also makes it stateside for a printing. :)

Game plays very direct on iphone. Only con is the area of the screen you cannot see, thanks to your finger steering flight and attacks. Good time killer, and if you love it, $8.99 and it's yours (full version).

Square Enix has some games out and one of note is Chaos Rings. They also have a sale on their other titles, listed here. Chaos Rings is about 5+ hours worth of PS1-era RPG action. Turn based attacks and random encounters. Is it so wrong I am tempted to taste the powa of this game? $12.99 for this mini RPG action. Sadly, there is no demo to sample.

Chaos Rings apparently has a shitload of extra content. You can also do multiple playthrus with different characters. So Fancy.

Zombieville USA is a pretty simple but fun game. Side-scrolling Zombie bucking fun. Free demo available, as the full version is $1.99.

Find any new games? I tend to look more at productivity tools and such, but the games on the iPhone I tend to come back to are the word games / pool / cards.

I also play that Enigmo water game. That's nifty fun for a bit.

I bought Sim City when it was on sale for like 99c, but man it's just hard to play that game on an iphone... maybe iPhone 4 runs that shit better. In fact... (runs off to play)

I ended up grabbing Zombieville, Chaos Rings and Dark Void Zero. Dark Void is some old school platforming I got for .99, and the other 2 games are solid time slayers. Choas Rings is shockingly robust for a phone game, as it's very PS1 RPG action. Random battles are tolerable too.

/random. I see this guide to secure your jailbroken phone. I don't have a need to do so currently, but figure the info is well listed. For iTunes, you can tweak about it a bit and add some plugins.

Chaos Rings has been a pleasant surprise of awesome as it has been patched. When I first got the game, you could not switch apps and resume where you left off easily, but this has been since fixed. Also of cool, is being able to save at any time. For the sake of grinding, you also have a choice of skipping the first part of a level, upon return.

Core game dynamics are ememy fights and XP GET. The added dynamic is Puzzle Challenges you will encounter on maps, that you need to complete to progress. Of no shock, at the end of said level, prepare for a Boss fight. :viking:

When you start out, fights may be a little tough, but as you near level 10 and finish the 1st zone, you'll see the excellence of how you unlock level tiers as you play. 1-10, 11-20 and so on tiers, make zone continuation a greatly controlled time, while keeping grinding within reason. You do have random encounters in the game, but you also can get an ability to turn them off at will. This is excellent, especially since we are talking about playing a PS1-era like RPG on your iPhone.

While the game is expensive, I find it highly worth it as I threw 5 hours on it yesterday in the airport. I can see myself completing it around the 8 hour mark, but you can play some alternate characters for replay value, as you have said choice when you start the game.

2010-12-22 Edit:

So, I rocked the credits and got a GG, but there is more to this than that.

For the 'Real' ending, you are tasked with playing the game again 3 more fucking times. To get to the End End battle, yes, you have to complete the game with the other 3 teams in effort to fight the super boss. While my initial playthrough is at just under 8 hours, I'm not keen on playing it 3 more times, just for the final battle

3.5 out of 5 :cookie: for this game, as the spoiler text explains the reason it should have otherwise been nearly a 5, in respect to iPhone gaming, and well designed RPG action.

Once I have a few bucks, I am also kinda interested in Infinity Blade. I'll see if there is a demo up so I can see how my 3GS fares with it.

Definitely want to get Infinity Blade. It's already got crazy good feedback and #1 grossing and all this stuff.

For only $5.99, like half the price of that Chaos Rings game, I can also download it to my iPad, which should be a sweet experience on its own. Plan to iPad game a lot during a short xmas trip to Canada.

Word man. I like the multi-timeline thing I have been reading about, as it sounds similar to Record of Agarest War in that respect.

I should check out some gameplay vids, as I was saddened by the lack of a demo. I do fear that learning too much will cause me to spend my gas money over lunch on it. :P Lunch won this Ducket Conquest. (yup, edit for that) :yar:

. Tap to Dodge or block, swipe to attach, press and move for camera. Game looks mad sold. :o

Likely Get after I finish up my Chaos Rings playthrough. Also on Infinity Blade, the SDK is hitting soon!

Back to Chaos Rings, my gripe is softened, as your Genes and their levels retain across character pairs. I started the 2nd pair and they have all my pimped Genes from the first playthru. Might balance my desire to keep playing it now ;p

Infinity Blade has been obtained and I finished a Bloodline 1 playthrough. 45 min on my first play and I dinged Level 4. Started off with 2nd bloodline and fought 1st dude @ the entrance. Pretty solid title, but be prepared for a lacking amount of exploration. It's a pretty fight game, where you will have your progeny going to battle against big evil.

The game looks great and runs well on my 3GS. I was playing music the whole time I played and by time I hit Bloodline 2, I was getting some chops and the back of the phone was quite warm. This game is working that GPU beyond any doubt. :) Keep in mind the heat to chop ratio when playing, so you don't cook your device.

Just to verify, loot, gear, stats and such stick from bloodline to bloodline. It'd be a dealbreaker is this weren't the case, while it'd also steal the charm from the game. As a mobile title, as Chaos Rings supports instant resume, so does Infinity Blade. When you come back into IB, you'll see some chops until it reloads everything. I just did this check, assuming the game wouldn't stay active in the background, else R.I.P. battery life. :bunny:

Thus far, Bloodline 2 takes place in the same castle, with the same paths. The only thing to change are the enemies, with a large scaling in level, up to 15 on Bloodline 2. To gain more levels for your play, when you die you can restart the chapter. Grind away, foolish avenger.

You have been warned. Luckily, the item and skillup system is good enough to mitigate the grindfest and single level design.

iPhone 4 vs iPhone 3GS Game performance

As Kat juggles the prospect of new phone, I got a chance to compare the iPhone 4 (16GB) and 3GS (32GB). I grabbed Epic Citadel for my test, since it is free and visually purdy.

Short of the initial load, I do not see a gaming performance boost. Also doing some stat checks, the GPU on each phone is the same, but the iPhone 4 has 512MB of RAM, over the 256 in the 3GS. Verdict: Not worth loosing double the storage space in my situation.

Kat's phone wars aren't going well, so she may just stick with her 4 anyways.

I recently scored an iPhone 4 from Kat's recent upgrade to a 4S. My 3GS served me admirably, but was ready to retire.

I wanted to grab the Unreal Engine 3 Benchmark program, but could not recall the name. Epic Citadel is the bench app, if you too fail to recall the name. I'd consider reinstalling Infinity Blade, but it looks like my iTunes backup didn't keep my safe file. crdy.gif
