Sacred 2: Fallen Angel

In case anyone wants to blow some loot, Gamestop is running the Game Days Promo. Checking the list, I saw Sacred 2 that I scored for $20. I wanted to sample the loot whoring, but didn't want to sink full price on it. Thanks to the sale, I scored me some PS3 version for a nice price.

I've noticed the deals only apply to the 'New' games, as the used copy of this game is still @ $35. The supply of new copies is pretty low as well, so I'd give a call to save some trips. Also of note, if you don't have or played Prototype, you are missing out, since it's also going for $20.

Back to Sacred 2 (official page), I hope to rock it out tonight and over the weekend. I see in the manual it supports 2-player on one console and 4 over PSN / XBL. I really wish more games had split-screen or similar multi player on one console play. I feel this feature is a self-seller for friends who have others come to their pads, to game.

I'll give some more info once I get my feet wet with this game. I have a happy backlog and am putting in some work on it. ;)

I got an hour or so in last night and it looks like there is promise. Graphics are medium range and remind me of a Top-Down PC RPG made in the last 5 or so years. I do like the Right Stick to change the camera, as you go from a Diablo II view, to a more WoW-ish battle view.

You'll have a decent map and Quest log to help you along your way. Any items you can loot, will give you an on-screen L1 dialog to open them. The same will happen for any trigger objects. I also notice this game supports you jumping into a friends game to level, then when you go back into your Single player game, you'll retain Levels and Items you gained. Speaking of levels, I believe they cap @ 200. :o

I made a Temple Guardian with Testa spec, as I liked the natural healing and damage abilities of that alignment. Big old Level 2 now. :P

Btw, there is a list of console to PC differences on the SacredWiki. Gonna give some pokes around there to make sure I don't overlook some handy starting info.

I found 2 big handy notes for the console players.

Blacksmithing

The Blacksmith skill does not work. It will not let the player smith in the field and will not let the player socket amulets in silver sockets. Thus, it is recommended not to take this skill on any character. The NPC smith will still let you smith items, but the player will not gain any extra benefit from choosing the blacksmith skill.

Handy Combat tip

Holding down the button to execute certain CAs of "melee" type (ex: Pelting Strikes or Soul Hammer) will result in the character executing the ca when its regeneration time is finished (if there is a target in range). While the CA is recharging, holding down this button makes the character do normal attacks. As a result, it is not necessary to have a weapon as one of your main 4 button attacks in order to execute normal attacks (the weapon can instead be assigned to an L+button or R+button slot. This results in you being able to execute the CA as soon as it is recharged without having to repeatedly click the button and while continuing to pummel enemies in range at the same time! This technique works regardless of whether you have a ranged or melee weapon equipped. A player could use regen per hit equipment so that the connecting melee attacks that follow the CA will recharge the CA even faster, allowing the player to maintain a higher CA level. This technique will also work if you have multiple "melee" type CAs in a combo. Note that this technique does not seem to work with spells, to cast a spell again after the first casting, the button has to be pushed again.

Overall, I'm glad I got this on sale. It looks fun, but I'd be jaded if I paid full price.

I also have this for 360, as many are rocking it out now. Went from nub to like 7 or 8 last night w/ BB and J0k. I didn't play online with the PS3 version, but the 360 play seems a bit smoother than the Ps3 version. I'm letting a buddy borrow that, as he just got his kid a PS3. :)
