Starships: Defender (Jedi) D5-Mantis (Bounty Hunter) Fury (Sith) Phantom (Imperial Agent) Thunderclap (Trooper) XS Freighter (Smuggler) Your Starship will be your home base for your character and crew and you'll be able to relay orders back to the ship. Obviously it'll play a role in your space combat/quests and travel as well. It seems similar to getting your wings in Aion. A class quest on your starting planet around level 15 will award you your ship. Crew Skills: Gathering - Archaeology, Bioanalysis, Scavenging, Slicing Crafting - Armormech, Armstech, Artifice, Biochem, Cybertech, Synthweaving Mission - Diplomacy, Investigation, Treasure Hunting, Underworld Trading Crew skills will be performed by companions you rally to your cause during your adventures. The class you pick will affect which companions you can and can't have. You can have characters of either allegiance on the same server. 8 characters per server. Pea
Hubby and I preordered. I wasn't all that excited to try it but doing research for the above post got me a lot more interested. I am far from a Star Wars guru... dunno if I would even be considered a fan. I don't hate the story by any means. It just so happens my favorite movies are the Family Guy ones. Not sure what I will do... Bounty Hunter seems fun but I will want to explore a good guy as well. I suspect the planets they quest on will be a lot prettier. Maybe Jedi something or Trooper for my good character. We'll see. Link to comment
J0k3r
I dunno Star Wars was never my bag. I wont say I am a hater, but I wouldn't say I even like it.. IDK, when do you get it? Link to comment
Pea
I'm not sure. There's no confirmed date, but supposedly pre-ordering will allow earlier gameplay so we'll find out... soon hopefully. XP It wasn't of much interest to me either. Although, they seem to want you to have multiple characters to experience the different stories and gameplay, which I always do, so this might be a good MMO for me. :ninjakilla: EDIT: Another reason we're playing is everyone I used to work with, that hubby currently works with, wants to play. So it could be fun just for that. Edited September 8, 2011 by Pea Link to comment
J0k3r
No doubt to playing with crew, it's the only way to game. How old are you now Pea? I am talking to fn0rd online and I thought u were like 12 (Maybe true back in the day) LoL but the "Hubby" comment got me thinking your more than likely older. Link to comment

Pea
That is pretty freaky. In some ways, it does feel like forever ago. But when you actually say ten years it's like, "WTF?" Link to comment
Pic0o
I figure we will see a copy to hit the pad, somewhere in the first month or so. Saving my PC Winter prospects on possible Diablo 3 drop. Warned doods that SW is a back, to some demon slaying loot OD. :ahoy: Else, will ride wave in on checking SW play in the Winter bunker time. :D Link to comment
Pea
Oh snap, we'll be hoppin on some Diablo 3 action as well. Link to comment
Pea
Hubby has been playing and I tinkered around while he was out. It so far is... meh. There isn't much music which is disappointing to the extreme. Music is a big part of Star Wars in my mind. Companions all are the same, as in... whatever class you are, everyone of the same class has the exact same ones. Even the names are the same, which I think is lame. They could have done like WoW and had a slew of possible names for each companion, or the option to rename them like you can a pet since it says "So and so's companion" under their name anyway. There are some option to change appearance but... meh. We are hoping there is a change name option that hubby just doesn't know about yet... but reading others chat in game it doesn't seem so right now. Also so far, the companions will lose affection for you if you choose actions the opposite of what they are... so Vette is a good companion and if you do certain dark side things, she will lose affection for you. I think you should be able to sway her to dark side ways if she is going to be your companion and that is what path you choose but whatevs. Leveling is the same, mobs, quests, etc. I was hoping for something more like... training grounds where you go and fight npc's instead of just slaughtering innocent creatures (unless you're dark side I guess) but that doesn't seem to be the case. You have your 4 base classes to choose from, then you pick between two advanced classes, and each advanced class has 3 talent specs. So that part is neat... Kind of Rift-ish but better. And like Rift, you can put into all 3 trees at a time as you please, but it doesn't usually make sense to split them among the trees (or at least not in the beginning.) Character creation is pretty neat... I'd say more like Rift than WoW. So more detailed options, but still not in the realms of Aion customization. Again though, most hairstyles transfer to any race that has hair... which I find to be lame as there aren't all THAT many to choose from. So far, my rating is that I won't get it for myself. But we'll see. Hubby likes it better than WoW but he was playing WoW for much longer than I, and he's gotten much farther than I in it so it makes sense he'd find Star Wars more interesting. He did bring up that in this game your quests are all part of a story and they all make sense for it, instead of like WoW when you end up doing the most random errands for strangers and shit. That part IS pretty awesome. It has a lot of cut scenes, you can skip them but it's not wise. Then the cut scene pauses at key points in conversation so you can pick what your response will be to help distinguish whether you are dark side or not. EDIT: Also, the game is beautiful, which is good. And you can indeed have opposite alliance characters on the same server. Think the max is 8 per server, will have to double check next time I get a chance. Link to comment
Pic0o
Thanks for the infos. My buddy has been geeked the shit out on this since the pre-week started for CE folks. He let me know he now lives off Combos and Energy Drinks. :ahoy: Reading your info, it seems like TOR is more a less, WoW with FFXI like cut scene love. If I wasn't OD'd on the MMO side of life, I'd give it a chance. /random: Fat black cat is taunting my dogs again. Stupid thing just sits in the driveway and fronts! Link to comment
Pea
Lmao at the black cat. It better hope the dogs never escape! I actually really wouldn't compare it to WoW. But it's hard to describe if you haven't played Rift or Aion, it's more like a combo of those and FFXI or something. One thing that's cool about your companions is that you can have them help you fight or you can send them off to gather for you or craft for you. I dunno... maybe I will try it out, we will see. It will definitely have replayability since the quests follow your story so different characters you make will have different stories. Link to comment
Pea
Ok been playing it more... although I don't foresee long term playings for me (possibly but not super likely) I think I would get my money's worth out of it. So whenever we move in somewhere and get our comps set up I will get it. One thing that is weird but kinda neat... regardless of your allegiance/class, you can choose to be light side or dark side by your interactions and stuff. Already got my 3 characters figured out, know I want at least 4 though. XP Blind people race (forget what they are called) - Jedi Consular, will be a goody goody Cyborg - Bounty Hunter, wicked bitch Green race that starts with an M - Trooper, mostly naughty, possibly slutty Link to comment
Pea
Figured it was screenie time!!! :D So glad to have my desktop again. :ninjawub: Here is my main, a commando (trooper) and mirialan. My sith inquisitor, a twi'lek. And my jedi consular, a miralukan. I have more toons of course but those 3 I know for sure are staying. Here is my trooper during a space mission. Here you can see I barely survived as my thunderclap is all sorts of fucked up. (Note the health bar in the lower left, lmao.) I freakin LOVE space missions! They have ones you can do alone, and they have ones you do in groups called flashpoints. Then there's regular quests on worlds that go the same way, some alone and some in groups, so it's pretty awesome. Here are some goofy characters I made and have since deleted... Dragco the jedi knight from Rocky Horror it looks like, lol. And Khankle, since I couldn't make a toon named Khan. XP Khankle again. Link to comment
