Philip
Hello, Is anyone here interested in the upcoming game, Guildwars 2? I believe it's going to be completely different to Guildwars 1. In my opinion, Guildwars 1 was a good game and it achieved what it aimed to be; it was extremely fun competitively, and the PVE had a good storyline; there wasn't as much to explore in PVE as to be found in conventional MMORPG's--one could certainly argue that the PVE side of Guildwars 1 was lacking. I think many people misunderstood the design of the game, and this lead to disappointment, especially for those expecting a game comparable to WoW. I believe the PVP aspect of Guildwars 1 made the game what it was, and in my opinion it was great. It lacked a few features that I think are essential for competitive gaming, for example: the ability to see peoples ping's. My main team was Korean, and I used to play with Korean teams on Korean servers, a lot; ping is a huge issue in games where one quarter second skills are used. Guildwars 2 looks like it is going to put the "massively multiplayer" aspect back into the franchise--this will dramatically improve PVE. I'm not sure if the PVP will be as good as in Guildwars 1; PVP in Guildwars 1 felt completely different to the MMORPG genre altogether. I'm half expecting Guildwars 2 to be like a blend of Aion, WoW, Guildwars 1, and LoL. I think the graphics will be great, and I also think it's interesting that the developers have thought about the underwater aspect of the game. Link to comment
Pea
Depending how much time I have at that point, (will be taking college classes ugh,) it's something I might try. I loved Aion and still play WoW every now and then. Most of my gaming consists of Sims at the moment because they can be paused when little man starts crying, lol. Plus we're gonna be trying out Star Wars. :icon_wacko: Gonna go into game overload! XP Link to comment
Philip
It will be free to play, there is simply no excuse not to play it! I've just tried to get a job working on GuildWars 2. I doubt I'll get anywhere, but whatever ;p. Link to comment
Pea
Seriously?! Hmmm... when is it coming out again? =p Link to comment
Philip
Yeah, you buy the game like a regular game, but there's not a monthly fee. I'm not entirely sure, we'll perhaps see a beta towards the end of the year. I believe that the beta, and the release date, will be extremely close to each other. Judging by the videos on YouTube, it looks quite good already. Excuse the guy talking with his hands: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQGASqXNQQA Edited September 14, 2011 by Philip Link to comment

Philip
This game looks really good :o. Some new videos got released recently, what do you think? Link to comment
Pic0o
Honestly, I think it looks like a smoother copy-paste of every other MMO on the market. I have completely lost interest in buying / paying for an MMO. I play Forsaken World because it's free, and you can level afk. Link to comment
Philip
While it's possible you are right, I haven't ever really got stuck into a mmorpg before, so it will be a new experience for me. I played guild wars 1, but it was vastly different and I did play some aion, but not that much. So I'm personally looking forward to the new guild wars. Although it's a one payment like with an FPS game, I imagine they will find another way to profit from the community. Time will tell I guess. Link to comment

Too many years of doing end-game runs has shown me how not fun a MMO can be. Link to comment
Pea
Lucky him indeed! I got sucked into FFXI, Aion and WoW, lol. Although the latter took a long time for me to really enjoy and I will always be partial to Aion (it was so beautiful and my cleric was a BEAST!) Most likely I won't be trying it, strictly for time's sake. But if everyone and their mother demands it be played after trying it out, I would maybe pick it up then to see what all the fuss was about, lol. Link to comment
Philip
I think it all depends on who you play with too. If it's with a group of friends, it can be much more fun :). As for Pea, you'll be playing it, this is non negotiable. :D I want a release date and I want it now . I'm not sure if everyone is familiar with Guild Wars 2 but you'll be able to cast while you're moving. That's pretty interesting, I think. There's also no quests in the conventional sense of clicking on a guy and being told go from A to B and to kill some boar or whatever. Link to comment
Pea
Lmao ORLY?! Well I will give you my mailing address so you can send me a copy when it comes out. =p The no quest thing could be good... or bad. If it's like it was in FFXI I will be royally screwed, lol. Also Pic0o, running end game stuff over and over is super lame but you shouldn't let that kill your MMO drive. =( It might not be the "right" way to play, but I usually play an MMO as a normal, linear game. Lol. It's a bit more expensive of a game, but there's a lot to explore and stuff so I just focus on enjoying it. When it's not fun any more, I stop my subscription and take a break, but have learned not to uninstall because eventually I'll get bit by the bug to wanna play again and off we go! Although I can understand every MMO has some very basic commonalities that could kill it after a while... but you never EVER crave that any more? Link to comment
Philip
Haha, you'll not be so lucky! Though if I get a second account, I may let you play on it. I'm not promising though, because I plan to buy a custom edition account. I was thinking of buying multiple accounts to make some money (it's not strictly allowed, but whatever). Selling gold/accounts is really popular in new games, and it's easy to make a lot of money due to bugs and other things. I'm not really sure what's happening though. The no quest thing looks great from what I've seen in videos. Link to comment
Pic0o
I get an occasional itch for some MMO, but I can appease it with some solid dungeon crawling. Social aspect is a huge factor in play enjoyment, as tons of my XI time was running with old heads and busting shit up. Anymore, I'd rather use the monthly fee on gas and go chill at a gamer house for the weekend. Gives me the MMO scope of fun, while actually being outside of my home with other people. I even have the light sleeping down for those days. :) I hear you on the MMO end game social, but that only lasts so long for me as I end up wanting pimp gears for relevant job. Either you'll be putting in an obscene amount of solo time for a decent item or you'll want to merc it out with other heads. Either way that will translate to beast time input and likely an in deliberate schedule to do so. Another huge factor for me is being able to pause / stop whenever it suits me. Having dogs makes this pretty key as I'm sure goes for little people. That being said, if GW2 does a beta or trial, I'll probably give it a try. Otherwise, Diablo 3 will be my socially awkward time sink. :) Link to comment
