No dizzy...

Considering all I do on my home PC is check email, forums, facebook, and webcam there is no need for the high dollar game rig any more. The best part is, with the NAS, I have all of the space I need! Definitely a sweet score. Once I get it in and all setup, I will be going to town on rebuilding this box so that I can have 2 reliable pc's. This one is on its last leg. One of the HD's are dying, it rarely boots up after you restart it, and the mobo is about 65% fried.

So yea... w00t w00t

Funny you mention bad drives, as my rig was not powering up with the bad drive hooked up. First time I saw weird shit like that happen. I also hear you on the lacking need for a super PC, since the console games + TV = easier adventures and less maintenance.

Good work! Speaking of such things, you guys see some snow melt? I heard DC is still boned with snow.

I still cant drive my 350Z to work due to the 6"+ layer of snow/ice in my back alley. I layed down a total of 400lbs of ice melt to make a way into my driveway. We are also having nice drifts form every night which makes roads that were dry during the day a snow covered icy path of fun. My max speed driving home is about 35mph which makes a normal drive ever so much more of a PITA.

I still love snow, I am still happy we got as much as we did, and I still hope for more. The only thing is we are running out of places to put it all. All of the snow budgets in the cities around here are spent and they are claiming if we get another snow like the ones we had recently that they wont be able to do anything about it. They spent so much money they have used the entire years budget for snow already, and have also tapped into the road repair budget for over 250K.

Anyways back to the netbook. After I got rid of all the pre-installed junk and did some quick tuning I am very impressed with the speed of this lil thing. Dont get me wrong its not an ub3r gaming rig, but definitely an excellent choice for normal computing.

I was rolling a webcam chat via skype today while transferring 6GB of mp3s over wireless, playing mp3s via mediaplayer, uninstalling chit loads of pre-install awfulness, browsing some websites (including youtube), and also installing OpenOffice. These tasks were mostly done at once and I must say it handled it better than I would have thought it could. I plan to upgrade the RAM to 2GB and also add a bluetooth dongle. The fact that the US models do not have an internal bluetooth setup makes me sick. This sweet ass ultra portable device absolutely needs it. I mean come the freak on IBM. This paired with a tethered blackberry (using bluetooth) makes for an ultra portable 60KBps connect anywhere system. The fact that out of the box I need to actually use a tethering cable makes me want to stab someone.

I typed this post of the netbook and I must say, even though the keyboard is small it is very usable. In fact in some aspects I almost prefer this size keyboard as it takes less effort to type do to less travel distance between keystrokes. This is also resulting in less typos, so I expect a longer backspace button life.

So far 5 out of 5 hands down easy absolute need. I will more than likely be buying one for L33 as they make girlie pink and purple ones with flowers. Again, $279 shipped to my door for this device makes me feel like I stold something. If you are in the market or even kicking the idea around, don't hesitate and pick one up before I buy them all.

PS> I scored 8hrs of battery life out of this thing at work (No wireless connection) playing solitare and just cleaning up the system. The best part it I still had battery life left, and that wasn't on a 100% charge!!!! I mean wtf! thats just sick. This is the 6 cell version as they do make a 3 cell but I figured I would deal with the extra weight and score the better battery life and I am very glad I did.

Ok ending rant now, but freaking buy one and bow the pimpness

I now have bluetooth setup on the netbook. I am still a lil bummed that I had to use 1 of my 3 USB ports to make it happen. Needless to say for the most part it shouldnt impact my usage much. I consider this my ultra mobile setup so its not like I am looking to attach a mouse or something. With the bluetooth I can tether wirelessly to my Blackberry which provides me up to 60KBps transfers pretty much any where.

Here is a link to the adapter that I scored

I had a Kingston one for work when I had an IBM T60 and it was a touch smaller. So far so good for now, I will post an update if anything changes :)

Facebook AHHHH /runs

Netbooks are way too small for me. Would never want to sit at home developing on a netbook all day. Wouldn't want to do that with my normal sized laptop either.. I need me a full desk and desktop. :munchies: But if you don't do shit on PC's anymore, I guess that small pussy shit is okay. :captain:
