Nintendo USB Wi-Fi Adapter

I am @ New Orleans in my Hotel, and I was able to get my DS online w/ the USB Key ;)

 

You will want to have a copy of the Install Disk for the Device with you, as reinstalling the Application is the easiest way to Properly configure your PC to share the connection out correctly for your DS to go online. Be sure to verify your Pc is active on the Local Network where you are @, as most hotels have the Proxy Page you need to hit, before you can go outbound on thier LAN.

 

When you run the installer, the device will use a ICS style protocol to get you online, and it will bind to the Active (Wired or Wireless) connection on your machine.

 

Once you run the install, you will get a Systray Icon, and bringing that up, will show you the Registration Tool. This app (Pictured below) will show you any DS' trying to connect to your access point, and it will not let any connection go outbound, until you authorise the console.

 

If you are a Mobile Gypsy like me, this device is a must, for getting your DS online all around the States and Beyond. FYI, this also works for the Wii, as well.

Pretty much Mario Kart (1 of my 2 WiFi games). I have been slacking on my Tony Hawk action to even stand a chance @ playing online, but I do rep the Rodney Mullen and some Skate Flatland for shits :)

I'm rocking the Dead topic, thanks to the Volume 24, #3 Issue of 2600. You can find full info on how to configure the Device as a Soft Access Point for Non-Nintendo Devices, and in a *nix environment, turn your USB Dongle into a Nintendo Download Station, and fire up .Nds files via regular Download Play.

 

I have another reason to rock a HD w/ a Nix distro. I'll work to install the 2nd HD, and get it ready to rock soon. If you want to tinker, and don't scoop up 2600 on the quarterly, you are missing out.

Bumping with a Link in OP as well, that the Latest Driver for the USB Wi-Fi Adapter is 1.06 as of 2007-10-05.

 

It works pretty well for the DS, and I will try the Wii on it again over my Break. :bunny:

I recently learned of a conflict with the Nintendo WiFi Software, for any machine sharing media to a 360 or other Media Extender.

 

My fix for this came from Issue 24-3 of 2600. Basically with some modifications outlined in the 'Hacking the Nintendo USB WiFi Connector' article, I am able to run the device as a Standard Access Point, that I can connect our DS's and any other wireless device in the house, via the $35.00 Hardware.

 

For ease of use, I grabbed all the required software and modified the perquisites to make it all work out, as outlined in the article. Props go to the Original article in the included docs too, as I just performed light labor and skills in the RTFM, be it the enhanced Manual.

 

Friendly Tip:

If you have a router with a default IP of 192.168.0.1, you might want to change that, as that would be the IP ICS likes to setup on the Wireless Device, to share your Wired Connection.

I'm giving an install of the USB Wi-Fi Adapter a run in Windows 7. I am trying this with Driver Version 1.07 and so far, I started out with an 'Unsupported Operating System' msg.

 

I was able to move past that dialog, then had to confirm some driver installs. Once I got near the end, it asked me to plug in the USB adapter, and since I already had it plugged in, it failed upon a reinsert. The install failed because I didn't pick the right option to allow the driver installs. :P

 

I re-ran the install, and so far it looks good on your Windows 7's. I am connected, but for whatever reason, the app still converts my DS name to Moonspeak (aka Kanji) in the Registration tool display.
